Recovering by the sea: the Antalya option after spine surgery
2026-06-01 · 4 min de lecture · Équipe Dr. Akşan
Some patients extend their stay to recover on the Mediterranean coast. What that looks like in practice — and when it makes sense.
Surgery is performed at our main centre in İzmir. But recovery does not have to end the moment you are discharged — and some patients choose to spend their recovery period on Turkey's Mediterranean coast.
Why patients consider it
After spine surgery, the early recovery weeks involve gentle walking, rest and gradually increasing activity. A calm seaside environment with mild weather supports exactly that kind of routine. Antalya, with its long seafront and established tourism infrastructure, is well set up for a comfortable extended stay.
What recovery there involves
- Accommodation suited to limited mobility (lifts, level access, comfortable beds)
- Gentle daily walking on flat ground
- Physiotherapy, where your surgeon recommends it, at local facilities
- Online check-ins with your surgical team
When it makes sense — and when it doesn't
An extended coastal stay suits patients who are stable after surgery and whose surgeon confirms they are fit for it. It is not a substitute for medical follow-up, and flying home on schedule with proper online follow-up is an equally good plan. Discuss the timing of your return flight with your surgeon either way.
The honest version
This is an option, not a package promise. If it fits your case, your budget and your surgeon's advice, it can make the recovery period genuinely pleasant. If not, skip it without hesitation.
